Side Step 2018 | Blackness & Postmodern
During the Side Step festival Urban Apa arts community will launch the first version of its publication Blackness & Postmodern. The event will include a discussion on the relation of blackness and postmodernity in dance. The English-written collection of texts by international and national artists is edited by UrbanApa’s artistic director Sonya Lindfors.
The texts deal with in depth and broadly the questions centered among the Side Step 2018 programme, such as the politics of the black body in the art context, the friction between postmodern art and blackness and the possibility of abstraction of the black body on the contemporary performance stage.
Hard times call for soft measures. The publication event will include the Decolonial Dreaming Session that offers a gentle platform for radical dreaming and subversive contemplation. The session will consist of a decolonial sound meditation followed by a soft discussion around decolonial practices lead by Lindfors. DDS is a continuation of UrbanApa's thematical sessions around possible and impossible futures. More info on UrbanApa arts community: www.urbanapa.fi
