PRODUCTION APPLICATIONS 2009 

Zodiak – Center for New Dance / Helsinki regional dance center is the most important venue for contemporary dance in the Helsinki area. Zodiak is a progressive dance organisation, event venue and collaborative space. New creations form the core of Zodiak's annual programme, but proposals for ready productions or guest performances are also considered. In addition to traditional performance practices Zodiak is interested in supporting choreographic concepts that promote community involvement and audience participation. Artistsa are encouraged to take the challenges of a mutlicultural and international society into consideration. Themes of 2009 are community and internationalism.

Zodiak functions as a performance producer in several production categories:
1) Zodiak co-produces new creations, provides possibilities for guest performances and organises touring of its productions within its resource limits.
2) Zodiak is interested in co-productions with other performance venues and organisations (such as regional dance centers, dance companies), as well as cross-discipline arts organisations (e.g. film, video, theatre, galleries).
3) Applications are also accepted for smaller-scale performances, such as dance improvisations, installations and dance videos. These will be considered for the programme of Z-in-motion, which is produced on a performance fee basis.
4) Project plans for audience development, outreach and community dance are also welcome, along with projects aimed at children or special groups.
5) Proposals for research projects, collective methods, workshops and courses will be considered.

Production applications can be submitted until 31.3.2008 (postal date) to: Zodiak – Center for New Dance, Tallberginkatu 1/154, 00180 Helsinki, Finland.

Production applications should be as detailed and clearly formulated as possible. Applications should include the following:
1) name of the work
2) name of applicant/ group, with contact information
3) members of the artistic group (performers, designers and other members)
4) performance plan (clearly stated thematic and expressive aims and planned audience relations)
5) production schedule (proposed rehearsal and performance periods with possible alternatives)
6) need for rehearsal space
7) desired performance venue and number of performances
8) planned duration
9) production budget with costs and proposed financing (received funding and applied grants etc)
10) dvd of previous artistic work, especially from artists living outside the Helsinki area and those who have not worked at Zodiak before.
