Workshop archive 2014 Benoît Lachambre : Challenging and Changing Our Notions About Presence
Through his radical approach to teaching, Benoît Lachambre proposes an exploration of the self-motivation of the different centres of the body.
His work is based on the awakening of the senses, as well as the distribution of weight and forces in the body. Lachambre incorporates the alignment and imagination of the participants, who are invited to explore and heighten their senses by becoming aware of the nature of movement in a specific context, a living space.
The goal: the search for an open mind, and harmony with each internal space. This process helps the participants to observe the dynamics of internal and external movement, towards a holistic awareness of the body and the environment.
Active in the dance community since the 1970s, Benoît Lachambre discovered improvisation and releasing in 1985. Their kinesthetic exploration of movement came to permeate his choreographic process. There is something quite radical about Lachambre’s approach. His deep exploration of the awakening of the senses, imagining the body as it changes, outside itself, also involves the emphasis of movement in a specific context, a living space.
