Dancing with Social Distance
Dancing with social distance creates a space for meeting people without physical contact in this state of emergency. Due to the COVID-19 virus we are forced to isolate. Through this project we are trying to find a way to stay in contact and to express our feelings of what is happening around us through movement.
Art can respond to the changing situations quite rapidly. We want to expose ourselves to the current situation and explore what can be done through movement art. We are offering an appointment via Zoom service to have a conversation and to dance the virus away. Dancing with social distance gives an opportunity to dance together in a simple way through mirroring each other's movement. The performer can also dance for you with your favorite song. The calls will be captured and exhibited later this year if the participant agrees.
The appointments are for all ages.
The length of the appointment is max. 30 min.
You can participate as follows:
Search a free time slot in the booking calendar and send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, in which you tell your name and the time you want to book. You will be sent a link to your own email for the dance moment. When it's time for our meeting, go from the link to Zoom and we'll meet there. For our appointment, you will need a computer or mobile device with a camera. If you have questions, you can call +358449359902/Angela.
The languages we speak are Finnish (Kati), English and Arabic (Angela).
The project is actualized by two performance artists Angela al Debs and Kati Raatikainen. Angela al Debs is a syrian performer, graduated from The Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts 2018, now working with the Finnish national theater and Zodiak center for new dance. Kati Raatikainen is a Helsinki based choreographer working in the Valokeilassa Koillinen project in Zodiak, interested in the variety of possibilities within the performance art.
