Meat Disco – On Physical Pleasure

All Zodiak courses are on a break until April 13. Some courses will have to be canceled altogether, but we are currently exploring the possibility of transferring some courses to new times. We are also looking at different web based solutions for some courses.

We will inform course participants about the status of each course. Putting together this whole puzzle will take some time, so it may take a few days for the messages to arrive.

A performance celebrating bodies will be created in the course, and will be performed in a public space at northeastern Helsinki on July 2020. The course fits 25 participants, and will be filled in the order of the enrolments.

Body is the human being’s closest natural environment, home and place in the world. The body is also a filter between the world and the self. By remaining safe within one’s own body the human being is able to focus his or her attention and energy out into the world. By holding on to our own physical agency and capacity we also give that possibility to the people around us. Shamelessness and joy are contagious.

The first part of the course (free for all and open to everyone) that developed the concept took place in northeast Helsinki in autumn 2019, but new participants are welcome to join when the project continues in the spring.

In the current social and political atmosphere valuing, respecting and loving one’s own body is a revolutionary act. Meat Disco is activism without preaching. Embracing and caressing a person unknown to you voluntarily in public is a statement for kindness and empathy and against alienation.

Physical and bodily norms shape our relationship with the society. By adapting to the prevailing norm we give the responsibility for deciding our place in the world to someone else. Externalising the responsibility grants this abstract entity outside us the power to decide how we perceive ourselves and the world around us.
The participation to the course requires commitment to the rehearsal schdeule. More info via Anna Koskela / 050 5737947
