During the course led by Leo Terävä, we’ll explore movement, dive into our imagination, and give permission to ourselves to enjoy the movement.

On this course we’ll dance, work with the imagination, and explore what kind of movement each and every one of us can do from our own starting points. We won’t try to reach some certain kind of aesthetic or way to move, but rather we’ll let the movement be what it is and work with that. During the course, we’ll activate our bodies and deepen our relationship to ourselves by doing somatic/imagination-based tasks, as well as try to activate our bodyminds comprehensively by doing versatile improvisational tasks.

During the course, we will open up our imaginary worlds by moving - we’ll enjoy, feel, and dance. We’ll explore rhythm, commitment, and the articulation of our bodies, and we’ll search for ways to bravely expand out in the space, in relation to the space, gaze, and others.

The classes are suitable for anyone wishing to dance in a shared space. During the course, you’ll have the chance to get to explore the possibilities you have in your own bodily expression, and you’ll get to share your movement and your thoughts with others in a safe space. We always begin the classes with a warmup, from where we continue to guided improvisational tasks.

Leo Terävä is a Helsinki-based dance artist. He graduated from the Theatre Academy/University of the Arts Helsinki in 2023, and has worked as a dancer and performer since 2018. In addition to performing, Leo has done choreographic work and taught dance/facilitated shared dance moments in various spaces. In the autumn of 2023, Leo will perform at Zodiak in the piece PLAY by Virva Talonen.

In artistic work, Leo is especially interested in e.g. rhythm, humour, irony, sweat, awkwardness, feelings, and pleasure. In his artistic practice, Leo focuses on improvisation, listening to the body and in the articulation of the body. Leo finds working with the imagination and affects particularly interesting - he’s interested in how one can bring the inner world we all have in ourselves, out to the world for others to see.
