Zodiak - Center for New Dance and HAM are looking for artists-in-residency for the HAM Corner space in Tennis Palace. The residency is aimed for freelancers working in the field of dance as well as freelance-based groups, regardless of the type or genre of your movement. The two-week residency periods will take place between April and June 2022.

With this professional residency program we want to provide a place for artistic experiment, free of pressure to create finished work. The residency will take place during HAM’s exhibition Dance! Movement in the visual arts 1880–2020. The exhibition highlights works of art that depict dance, dance-like movement and corporeality in the collections of Finnish museums from the 1880s to the current decade.

The residence program offers a space to practice, which opens directly into the urban cityscape and the street level of the Tennis Palace. Due to its characteristics, the residence space allows, for instance, a possibility to organize spontaneous demo events. The chosen artists are offered artistic consultation from Zodiak staff during the residency period.

HAM Corner is located at the street level of Tennis Palace, the windows of the space opening to the corner of Eteläinen Rautatienkatu and Jaakonkatu. The size of the residence space is 9 x 7.5 meters. The space has a sound system, a small kitchen and toilet facilities. Please note that there is no dance flooring in the room. The chosen artists and working groups will be provided with a residency allowance of 500 euros.

Please indicate the period during which you wish to attend the residency. The dates can be found in the application form. You can add an optional video (max. 3 minutes) to support your application. The video does not need to be professionally made, but instead we hope it shows your spark of making, as well as why this opportunity is relevant to you or your working group. We want to make the application process as easy as possible for applicants and therefore recommend keeping the application text brief.

The closing date for applications is Fri 18.2.2022. The selections are made by a small jury consisting of staff from HAM and Zodiak. All applicants will be contacted no later than week 10. Submit your application by filling out the form behind the link:
