In this course, we will work closely with the sense of touch and explore what it expresses and communicates.
In this Indulge the Movement -course you will be guided by dance teacher and artist Sanni Kriikku, who is fascinated by the relationship between the visual and the tactile. The exercises involve physical touch, which has helped Sanni connect with the flow, gravity and subtle qualities of her own movement. Our aim in this course is to create a deep, embodied connection to how dance feels.
We will practise a range of movement-based exercises that focus on the felt experience of dance. Each class is built around a clear structure and simple movement tasks. Throughout the classes, we will listen to a lot of music, while also listening closely to our bodies. At its best, dance is both viscerally physical and magically emotional and spiritual.
Sanni Kriikku graduated as a dance teacher from Savonia University of Applied Sciences in 2016 and as a dance artist from the Theatre Academy of Uniarts Helsinki in 2021. She has a broad movement background rooted in her childhood and youth, with experience in competitive gymnastics, contact improvisation, somatic methods, classical ballet, show and jazz dance, and contemporary dance.
‘As a dancer, truthfulness, intuition, beauty and surrender are important to me. As a teacher, I aim to offer my students clear frameworks they can grasp and focus on, trusting that these will help them discover their own worlds and insights.’
Sanni’s teaching style is encouraging, light-hearted, present, and based on dialogue.
The perfromance Merry Christmas Sanni and Samuli by Sanni Kriikku & Samuli Emery will be seen on Zodiak's fall program between 21.8.-6.9.2025.
