Technical equipment

As a rule, Zodiak’s technical equipment is reserved for Zodiak’s current programme of performances. For rentals of technical equipment, please contact technical director Johannes Vartola.

Production consulting for works selected into seasonal programme

The workgroup has full responsibility for completing the co-production in time for its premiere in all respects. In co-productions, Zodiak’s role as the co-producer is primarily to support and to facilitate the production process. We offer production help, technical consultation and dialogue in artistic questions for our artistic workgroups as required.

If your workgroup needs support or advice in production-related or technical matters, please get in touch with Producer Tommi Kokkonen.

Post-production and performances outside Zodiak

Zodiak supports, within its resources, the extended lifecycle of its premieres and the employment of artists working with Zodiak through the following:

  • Acting as the contract party and providing production support for guest performances.
  • Acting as the contract party for professional performances of individual dance artists taking place outside Finland.
  • Arranging invoicing and salary payments for performances of individual works or performers in situations where the customer cannot make the payment in the form of a salary but must be invoiced instead.
  • Providing post-production sparring and mentoring (budgets, riders, dossiers, contracts), as a part of the Open office activities.
  • Featuring all coproductions prior to their premieres on the For Programmers page of its website, targeted at international curators, and keeping them visible there for approximately one year.
  • Highlighting works from the seasonal programme in the English-language newsletter sent to international curators.

For the services listed above, please contact Producer Katariina Kauppila.

Sales and Promotion

Since 2024, supported by two project grants aimed at strengthening international activities, Zodiak has also carried out more active sales work for a selection of the works it has co-produced. This work includes:

  • Active collaboration and mentoring already during the pre-production phase of a work.
  • Investment in promotional materials.
  • Targeted communication to international curators throughout the production process.
  • Inviting international curators to performances, and organising various presentations and encounters together with the artists.
  • Promoting works within international networks and at networking events (industry fairs, festivals, platforms, etc.).

Active sales work can be carried out, within the available staff resources, for approximately eight works at a time. Works considered for inclusion in active sales efforts are evaluated against specific criteria, such as:

  • The artist has had recent international activity, for example through performances or residencies abroad, and/or
  • The artist has both the willingness and the time resources to participate actively in the sales work, and/or
  • The work has already attracted international interest before being included in the sales activities, and/or
  • The work has been selected for the Zodiak CoCommission co-production category.

Active sales work is carried out for approximately one year following the premiere season. If no tangible results (such as initial discussions) are achieved during this period, the work will be removed from Zodiak’s active sales portfolio.

The productions of realised performances and tours of works under active sales are always carried out in collaboration between Zodiak and the artist/work group. The division of responsibilities is defined case by case, within the framework set by Zodiak’s touring production concept.

Questions regarding the promotion and sales work can be directed to Head of International Development Katarina Lindholm.
