This Indulge the Movement intensive course is rooted in deep appreciation for uncensored embodiment and autonomous relationships, and a desire to protect them from the cultural and political structures that work against them.

In Jessica Piasecki's course, we approach dance romantically. This course is rooted in deep appreciation for uncensored embodiment and autonomous relationships, and a desire to protect them from the cultural and political structures that work against them.

We will experiment with ‘low fantasy’ methods to access our romantic potential. Sometimes tuning in takes longer, and we acknowledge that. We may want to pour our everything into dance, but we do not expect the same back from it, and vice versa. In this course, romance is a mindset, not a relationship type.

Melodrama does not exist in the classes because no emotion is too much; we want to experience them all through dance. Yet we ask: How could my movement, my dance, and our social and cultural movements be uncompromising in their passion while still questioning their grip? How can we avoid silencing our own pulse when our rhythms fall out of sync?

Jessica’s practice draws on the ideas of Audre Lorde’s essay Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power.

In the classes, we date dance through improvisation and music. Depending on what the group wants, we may also explore lyrical movement sequences. The course welcomes self-directed experimentation, aromantic and romantic bodies, and all styles of dating dance.

The course is taught in Finnish and English according to the needs of participants.
