THE COURSE IS CANCELLED!

A three-day workshop given by Elina Pirinen and Virva Talonen focuses on the concepts of pre-performance and post-performance. They are used to search for new perspectives, ways and methods for practical performance work. The concepts relate to time before and after the performance. During the course, pre-performance and post-performance are explored as performances of their own right. The concepts are explored through each participant's own praxis and material. The objective is to expand our ways of thinking about the format, nature and medium of performance or other artistic action.

What kinds of performances can different temporalities produce? Join us and discuss, share and explore!

Pirinen and Talonen have worked with temporality and the concept of performance since 2013. They have given workshops on the subject in Kedja Encounters in 2014 and in the Nordic-Baltic Circus Network meeting in 2015.

All participants are asked to bring a short (maximum duration: 2 minutes) sample of artistic or performative material that will be worked using the concepts of pre- and post-performance. The material can be photographs, video, song, composition, fantasy, speech, movement, action – or something else. It can be from a project the participant is currently working on, or an excerpt from earlier work or performance.

During the course the participants work alone and together in small groups. The course is ideal for dance, theatre, scenography, visual arts, photography and spatial arts professionals and students, as well as artists working with a performance or another kind of artistic action.
