Learn from two Gob Squad members on working collaboratively. Participants in this workshop explore new techniques in a series of exercises that assist in the process of creating and performing.

Drawing from each member of their collective, Gob Squad always collaborates on the concept, direction and performance of a work. Gob Squad constantly redefines its forms of expression, varying project by project from stage performance, video work, interactive live film to urban intervention. The performances are partly improvised and place the randomness of real-time encounters between performers and audience at the heart of the work.

“In our work as a collective, the roles of the author, the character and the actor come together in the role of the performer. We have to test out our ideas ourselves and put ourselves
on the line for those ideas. As a collective, we reflect the multiplicity and complexity of the culture in which we live. We don’t have six identical positions and tastes. We always tend to make ensemble pieces. There’s never really a lead role in a Gob Squad piece. There’s never a lone hero, heroine or protagonist.”

The workshop is led by Simon Will ja Berit Stumpf.

The visit is supported by Goethe-Institut Finnland and the Federal Foreign Office, Germany. The course is part of the Side Step Festival 2015 programme.
