The guiding theme of this course is the saying ‘my body is an amusement park’.
The guiding theme of this course is the saying ‘my body is an amusement park’. This means that your body can be a place to go wild, to be amused, to be silly and curious, and to experiment. It also emphasises the mover's agency: the body is a space for creating joy, movement, and meaning, both for yourself and together with others.
The classes combine simple movement sequences, bodily sensing, task-based improvisation, and dancing to music.
We work with movement sequences that are grounded in biomechanics, such as steps, jumps, level changes, and swings. We settle into bodily sensing, both alone and together, through witnessing and touch. In task-based improvisations, we work with mental imagery, presence, and different characters. We also explore varying movement qualities, such as floating, falling, explosiveness, and slowness, as well as creating our own.
About the instructor:
Terhi Hart is a dance artist (MA), dance teacher, and Pilates instructor. She works as a dancer, performance maker, teacher, and facilitator in Helsinki. As a teacher, Terhi is enthusiastic and gentle.
Terhi’s artistic practice explores the intersections of the intimate and the social. In her work, playfulness and humour are combined with intense and sprawling bodily expression. For Terhi, dance is a space in which you can be in connection, be what you already are, be what you would like to be, or encounter something you never knew existed.
