This course sets both men and definitions of what it means to be a man in motion. We are looking for men (including individuals who feel they are men or want to perform as men) willing to learn about dance and performing – regardless of age or previous stage experience.

Choreographer-dancer Jarkko Partanen gives the participants an introductory course on how to perform on stage and how to build a performance. Physical movement and bodily expression are explored through simple exercises and activities. Practice sessions focus alternately on motion-based exercises, choreography and the work of the performer.

The course is a preparatory stage for a piece named Fields of Glory (working title) choreographed by Jarkko Partanen that is set to premiere in August 2015. Fields of Glory is a large-scale performance where the participants of this workshop will have an important role. The course is, however, also open to participants who do not wish to take part in the production of the performance.

Selection of course participants is based on applications. Please fill in the form (click the link at the bottom of this page) to apply to the workshop. In the Motivation letter part of the form you can tell us about your motivation and reason for applying. You can tell us shortly about your background, relationship to dancing and performing and why you would like to participate to the course and/or performance. You do not have to have previous stage or dance experience. A separate weekend workshop (9–10 May) that focuses on the upcoming performance will be arranged for the performers.

Thursdays at 18–20, 16 Apr – 28 May & a weekend workshop 9–10 May at 10–14 (6 sessions + a weekend workshop, no session on 14 May)
