Workshop for dance and theatre professionals

NOBLE SAVAGE, the latest performance by choreographer Sonya Lindfors, explores colonised bodies, racialised identities, cultural imperialism and representations of otherness in a stage context. The workshop given by activist Maryan Abdulkarim and choreographer Sonya Lindfors investigates the themes of the performance in depth. During the day we shake up the concept of whiteness and explore processes of power through exercises, creation of new methods, discussion and experimentation.

The themes are approached through questions such as:

Through whose gaze is the stage looked at? Is something being represented as normal or neutral?
What kinds of representations or narratives of otherness we create on stage?
What or who is the assumed audience for whom art is made?
What is the difference between drawing inspiration and plagiarising?
What would a feminist, anti-racist stage be like?
