The central focus of this workshop is to develop a shared physical practice and vocabulary for dance based in technical insights into the body-in-motion that I have termed managing instability. We will investigate the body’s innate capacity for ease, efficiency and co-ordination in ordinary movement in which improvisation is understood as a dialogue between voluntary movement and spontaneity - a dance practice for those who can’t remember and those who would rather not.
These workshops are designed to give a direct authentic experience of structures developed by Trisha Brown, Twyla Tharp, Sara Rudner, Dana Reitz, Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson amongst others. Such structures are integral to the creative methodologies and choreographic practices of Modern and Post Modern Dance.
