The three-day workshop led by Adrienn Hód, choreographer of the Hungarian dance company Hodworks, focuses on structured improvisation. Participants are offered to discover physicality, body-work in couples and in solos, repetition and shrinking of movements. If open, participants are invited to experience the energy of nakedness, a liberated existence free of constraint. The workshop is based on the movement material and working methods of Hodworks’ Dawn.

In her work, Hód focuses on the body itself taking it from its cultural context and placing it in an empty space. She creates intimate situations in which dancers are offered space and trust to open their physicality. Hód is not afraid to work with the unknown: her method is based on improvisation that appears in a structured frame on stage.

“My aim is to make the power of movements visible. This led us to continuous actions that, during rehearsal, we called the ‘game for grown-ups’, something in which continuous ‘doing’ and repetition create the happening.  With repetition, we got to the point where we could ‘freeze a movement in time’ and the length of the frozen action could be decreased or increased.”

The visit is supported by Balassi Institute, Helsinki. The workshop is part of the Side Step Festival 2015 programme.
