In this course we’ll get to know each other. We will dance to the rhythm all together and we’ll let improvisation guide us.
The classes led by Janne Aspvik will start with warm-up, during which we will open up the senses towards the space and towards the other bodies moving in the space.
The warm-up is followed by rhythmic exercises, in which we learn to sing and play a short rhythmic phrase. During the course the aim is to vary the learnt phrase - in other words improvise in the frame of the phrase we have together constructed. After that we will move by ourselves, in pairs and in the group. The movement exercises give the space to practice the dialogical relationship between the movement improvisation and the rhythmic phrase.
The course draws partially from the performance Floor is Lava (choreographed by Janina Rajakangas) and its workshop-material that Janne Aspvik has been facilitating as a drummer and a dancer together with Janina Rajakangas.
One does not need prior knowledge neither from music or dance. Attend the class in a relaxed outfit with layers since we will alternate between playing music and dancing.
