At the guided phone-walks a group of people goes for a walk at the same time, but in different locations. The group is connected via phones in the fashion of a regular phone call. The host is using the Zoom application to form a group call, but the participants do not need smart phones, internet or Zoom applications: a regular phone is enough. One can hear the host speaking through their headhpones, and the phone can be put in the pocket.
The phone-walk has three parts. First, the host guides verbally a walking and observing practice. Thereafter, comes an interactive task. And at the end, there is time to talk and exchange. The first part is the longest, each following part being shorter than the previous.
So, the group does not meet physically, but only through their voices. Taking part in this course, however, does not require saying anything. To take part, one can be located anywhere between examples like Jätkäsaari, Utö and Äkäslompolo, as long as one has functioning regular phone connection.
The duration of one phone-walk is 1,5 hours and the course includes two walking sessions in total.

There are two versions of this course: one in English and one in Finnish. We kindly hope you to notice that these two versions take place at different dates.
In order to participate, one must have a phone, headphones and something to make notes with. Zodiak apologises that they cannot provide the participants with these equipments at this time.
The host for the course will send the participants further information via email one week before the course starts.
Pietari Kärki (they/them), alias Pie Kär, is a dancer/performer currently in the final stages of choreography studies in the Theatre Academy. As a choreographer, Pietari is especially interested in observing the public space, while as a performer the primary focus is on the performer’s relationship with the audience. In 2020, Pietari Kärki performs in Mikko Makkonen’s Actions x Figures, part of Zodiak’s spring line-up.

Enrolment is binding. Cancellations must be communicated on the last enrolment day by 6pm the latest by email to zodiak@zodiak.fi. Please check this course's last day of enrolment from above. With the exception of injuries and illnesses certified in writing by a doctor, cancellations made later than the deadline are subject to full course fee. An administrative fee, 10 % of the course fee, will be charged from all cancellations.
